Effort towards saving energy with LED bulbs

Hon’ble Minister for Economic Affairs, Norbu Wangchuk, launched the program to replace all incandescent light bulbs with LED bulbs in the country.

There are an estimated 700000 incandescent bulbs in the country. While the LED bulbs last 20 years, the incandescent bulbs have to be replaced every year and consume 90% more energy. Lyonpo appealed to the general public to support the initiatives by switching on to LED bulbs. Replacing every single incandescent bulb with LED will not only reduce carbon foot print but it helps the country earn additional revenue of Rs. 142 million every year by selling the 62 million units of saved energy.

Launching ‘Brand Bhutan’ this morning, the Prime Minister talked about the significance of recognizing and accepting Brand Bhutan, which he said, is not just about selling products but remaining true to Bhutanese ideals and inherent values.

Lyonchhen emphasized that Bhutan’s assets, cherished by its citizens and people from all over the world, is not only unique but continues to be very relevant today.

Hon’ble Lyonpo Ngeema Sangay Tshempo graced the the closing ceremony with the awarding of Certificates to the student participants on 30th January, 2016 in TTI-Dekiling, Sarpang.

112 school students who appeared Class X examination in 2015 from the six (southern & central) Dzongkhags participated in the second TVET Winter Camp for the duration of one month (January 4th till 30, 2016). They were taught basics of the following trades: 1. Electrical 2. Carpentry 3. Masonry 4. Plumbing 5. Automobile 6. Welding 7. Chagzho (casting) 8. Trezo (Gold and silver smith) 9. Shagzo (wood turning) 10. Jimzo (sculpture).
