Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Lyonchhen, took the honor of thanking His Majesty the King for gifting the Bhutanese people - Bhutan Economic Forum for Innovative Transformation (BEFIT).

Lyonchhen joined the teachers from Chukkha and Samtse Dzongkhags at Phuntsholing Higher Secondary School, Chukha Dzongkhag to celebrate the Teachers Day.

Lyonchhen meets Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan.

Mr. Taro Kimura, special advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan and his delegation met Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang this morning.

Lyonchhen told Mr. Kimura that happiness, agriculture and forestry are interrelated and the 11thFYP places a strong emphasis on overall development and inclusive growth with a focus on agriculture development and achieving self-reliance.

Lyonchhen said that agriculture was extremely important for Bhutan and the farmers in Bhutan need help and support from the government to improve agricultural productivity.

“We look forward to a greater Japanese support to help us grow more economically in the future. I’d like to personally request assistance from Japan,” Lyonchhen said.

Mr. Kimura said it was with great pleasure that he was visiting Bhutan for the very first time. Mr. Kimura also congratulated Lyonchhen for instituting a firm and successful democratic settlement in the country.

Hon’ble Lyonchhen said this visit, soon after the second general elections, marks the high level of goodwill, support and the bilateral bond of friendship between the two countries.


Hon’ble Prime Minister meets Dr. P. K. Singh, India’s Candidate for the post of Regional Director, WHO

Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh, India’s Candidate for the post of Regional Director, WHO called on the Prime Minister, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang today. Dr. Singh has been working with the WHO for the last 15 years and is currently a candidate contending for the post of WHO Regional Director of South-East Asia.

Dr. Singh and Hon’ble Lyonchhen discussed about healthcare, sanitation, disease prevention, nutrition, safe drinking water, and Bhutan’s progress in these fronts. Dr. Singh commended Lyonchhen on the nation’s remarkable advancement toward achieving the MDGs, conceding to an increase in life expectancy and decrease in infant and maternal mortality rates.
