Opening Ceremony of the Third BIMSTEC Summit

The Third BIMSTEC Summit’s opening ceremony was held at the Myanmar International Convention Center, Nay Pyi Taw today. H.E. U Thein Sein, President of the Republic of Myanmar welcomed the Leaders of the BIMSTEC member nations and said that BIMSTEC is directed towards bringing a harmonious and cooperative growth among its member states.

LFYLater, signing of the two MoAs and a MoU took place; the Memorandum of Association on the Establishment of the BIMSTEC Permanent Secretariat, the Memorandum of Association on the Establishment of a BIMSTEC Centre for Weather and Climate, and the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of the BIMSTEC Cultural Industries Commission (BCIC) and BIMSTEC Cultural Industries Observatory (BCIO).

The signing ceremony concluded with the handing of the signed documents to the BIMSTEC Ministers and the Thailand Special Envoy by H.E. U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the Prime Minister, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay meets the Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Leader of the Opposition, Myanmar today.
