PM launches the Clean Bhutan Project

The Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay inaugurated the Clean Bhutan Project at the Tourism Council of Bhutan this morning.

The Prime Minister also launched the Clean Bhutan Website dedicated to the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

Lyonchhen told the organizers, donors and volunteers that the project was very important toward safeguarding the welfare of the nation and the people and said that the people’s support and participation in this project was very crucial.

“The idea behind this project is to clean Bhutan in a sustainable manner and this project has to be a movement which will spread beyond Thimphu to the rest of the 20 dzongkhags and 205 gewogs,” Lyonchhen said.

“It is our responsibility to protect and preserve what has been gifted to us by His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. Therefore, we must bring about major changes in our mindset and put in our sincere efforts to this cause. This is nothing short of a movement than to clean our beautiful country,” Lyonchhen spoke to the gathering.

The project is being organized by Clean Bhutan in collaboration with TCB, BTFEC, RSTA and TCC.  The objective of the project is tackling waste at its source by “Advocating Behavioral Changes to Save Bhutan” from waste and by committing Bhutan as ‘Zero Waste by 2030’. Zero Waste for Bhutan will be to change the citizens’ opinion and to minimize waste by practicing the 5 Rs (Rethink, Reduce, Recycle, Reuse and Recover).
