ADB President calls on PM

President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Mr. Takehiko Nakao paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay at the Gylayong Tshogkhang yesterday.

Extending a warm welcome to the President, Lyonchhen congratulated Mr. Nakao for assuming this important post in April, 2013 and conveyed that under his leadership, the ADB will witness greater accomplishments in achieving its overarching goal of poverty reduction in Asia and Pacific. Lyonchhen said that Mr. Nakao’s visit during the first year of the new government and the 11th FYP in Bhutan clearly shows the importance attached by ADB towards socio-economic development of Bhutan.

Mr. Nakao thanked Lyonchhen for the warm welcome and conveyed that he was very happy to observe the progress Bhutan has made over the years.

During the meeting, Lyonchhen and Mr. Nakao held a discussion on ADB’s support for eco-friendly transport system and assistance for the concept of One Village, One Product scheme. Given the size of the 11th FYP, Lyonchhen informed Mr. Nakao that continued support and assistance from the ADB would be vital for the successful implementation of the plan.

Later in the evening, Lyonchhen and Mr. Nakao attended the opening ceremony of ADB Bhutan Resident Mission. Lyonchhen reiterated his appreciation for ADB’s collaboration and said Bhutan was confident that the Resident Mission will further strengthen and deepen Bhutan’s cooperation and relations with ADB.

 

Bhutan became the member of ADB in 1982 and ever since, ADB is Bhutan’s largest multilateral development partner.
