PM at the closing of the two-days training on Control and Monitoring of construction of tunnels & underground space

“This is the turning point where we are learning to design our own tunnels. We are starting to build our own tunnels,” Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister at the closing of the two-days training on Control and Monitoring of construction of tunnels & underground space.

Attending the program, Lyonchhen said that this training showcases the seriousness and enthusiasm the Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (Druk Green Power Corporation, thimphu) and the entire engineering fraternity has.

He added that we celebrate an ability today with the training in tunneling and underground spaces which would even work to ease the transport and traffic; and connect our valleys. He said that we must aim high and urged the International Tunnel Association to send our Bhutanese engineers as trainers so that ‘we can operate at the best’.

Lyonchhen spoke on the essence of tunnels in Bhutan, with the example of connecting Paro, Wangdue, Punakha and Haa with tunnels to Thimphu. He explained that tunnels connecting them would mean a greater Thimphu with four absolutely stunning different valleys of varying altitudes, flora and fauna.

Lyonchhen congratulated the 93 participants, Druk Green Power Corporation Limited and partners for contributing invaluable essence and training to the engineers. “This training will add immeasurably to our capacity,” He added.

The 2 days ‘Control and Monitoring of construction of tunnels & underground space’ was organised by DGPC with support from PHPA-1, PHPA-2, MHPA, THyEL, KHEL, CDCL, HTC and Sandvik Asia Private Limited with participants from hydropower projects, relevant ministries and other stakeholders.

Certificates were awarded to the participants.
