Lyonchhen met with H.E. Mr. Katsuyuki Kawai of Japan

Lyonchhen met with H.E. Mr. Katsuyuki Kawai, Member of Parliament and Special Advisor to Prime Minister of Japan this afternoon at Gyalyong Tshogkhang.

Lyonchhen informed H.E. Mr. Kawai that the socio economic, political, environment, and cultural development in Bhutan are all going well because of our friends and “Japan is one of our oldest friends” Lyonchhen added.

Acknowledging Japan’s contribution to the United Nations, Lyonchhen said that it is important for United Nations to “stay relevant”. Calling for reform in the United Nations in his address at the 70th Session of United Nations Summit for the adoption of the Post 2015 Development Agenda last year, Lyonchhen had said, “ United Nations has served us well for 70 years, to serve us for next 70 years, it must stay relevant and to stay relevant it must reflect the geo-political reality of today. Countries like India and Japan, Brazil and Germany must be made to serve as permanent members in Security Council and Africa must be appropriately represented. If we don’t reform the United Nations we risk making the sacred institution irrelevant and ineffective, that would harm all nations.”

Referring to Lyonchhen address at the 70th Session of UN, H.E. Mr. Kawai thanked Lyonchhen for “calling for reform agenda in the Security Council of United Nations” and said that this massive support has been a high reassurance.

H.E. Mr. Kawai informed Lyonchhen that Japan will provide the required Power Tillers proposed by Lyonchhen during his meeting with H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan. Extending gratitude to H.E. Mr. Abe, Lyonchhen said that Japanese Power Tillers not only represents technology but also friendship between Bhutan and Japan.

Lyonchhen thanked H.E. Mr. Kawai for his unwavering friendship and support to the advancement of Bhutan-Japan relations and cooperation. Lyonchhen also thanked the people and government of Japan for continuous support and generosity.
