PM Launches REMIT Bhutan

A Non-Resident Bhutanese can avail the facility to open Foreign Currency (FC) Account with the authorised banks in Bhutan for the purpose of remitting savings and earnings to their own foreign currency account or to their relatives. The authorised banks are – Bank of Bhutan Ltd; Bhutan National Bank; T Bank and Druk PNB Bank Ltd.

Thanking the Royal Monetary Authority and the partner Banks at the launch of Remit Bhutan – Foreign Currency Account, this evening, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay said that this arrangement will encourage savings and make transfer of money easer for Bhutanese living abroad. As part of the launch Lyonchhen approved two Foreign Currency Accounts for two Bhutanese living in Australia and Kuwait. Three Bhutanese who are yet to leave abroad were also issued with similar account.

To encourage the saving habits of Bhutanese Lyonchhen shared that the Ministry of Finance is studying the possibilities of waiving taxes on income earned from Fixed Deposits. Lyonchhen also thanked RMA and the banks for lowering the interest rate for loans and said that this will allow more business to flourish.
