PM meets the Singaporean Minister
The Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay today met with H.E. Mr. Lawrence Wong, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Senior Minister for Communication and Information of the Republic of Singapore at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang.Extending a warm welcome to the minister, Lyonchhen expressed his appreciation to the Government of Singapore for the kind hospitality extended to Their Majesties the King and Gyaltsuen during their visit to Singapore in September. Lyonchhen informed Mr. Wong that these visits contribute significantly to the growing friendship between Bhutan and Singapore.
During the meeting, Lyonchhen mentioned that after the establishment of air linkages and direct flights between the two countries, the number of Singaporean tourists visiting Bhutan have increased substantially and a greater exchange of people have taken place fostering a deeper understanding and friendship.
Meanwhile, Lyonchhen also conveyed his gratitude toward Singapore for organizing a reconstructive surgical camp, ‘Operation Smiles Singapore’ which benefitted many disadvantaged Bhutanese in remote parts of Bhutan. Lyonchhen expressed his appreciation for the generous support received from Singapore in development of our human resource, e-governance and ICT Master Plan.
Mr. Wong thanked Lyonchhen and said that Singapore will work closely with Bhutan and continue to explore further cooperation in preservation of tradition and culture and other vital areas of shared interests.
