Hon’ble Prime Minister arrives in New York

His Excellency Lyonchhen Jigmi Y Thinley arrived at the JFK international airport in New York City on 28 March, 2012 to attend the “high level meeting on well being and happiness: defining a new economic paradigm”, a first ever conference of this magnitude to be hosted by the Royal Government of Bhutan at the United Nations Head Quarters in New York City.
The conference will begin on 2 April and end on 4 April. More than 30 years ago, His Majesty King Jigme Singye Wangchuck declared that “Gross National Happiness is more important than Gross National Product”. Thus began a unique development path and a higher goal for human development than the existing global interpretation of development purely as economic development.
Hon’ble PM meets Israeli Ambassador
Israeli Ambassador to India H.E Alon Ushpiz called on the hon’ble Prime Minister Lyonchhen Jigmi Y Thinley today at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang.
Lyonchhen welcomed the ambassador and thanked the government of Israel for the support extended in the area of agriculture and for making training programmes accessible to Bhutanese.
The two leaders spoke of further collaborations in the area of agriculture and health services. Ambassador Alon Ushpiz spoke of the similarities between the two small nations and the similar challenges. He said that the government of Israel would be more than happy to have a strengthened relationship with Bhutan and invited the hon’ble Prime Minister to visit Hariyana, India to look at their Green house technology.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Lyonchhen Jigmi Y Thinley, who is also the chairperson of the National Environment Commission, graced the opening of a training conference to develop Bhutan’s fundamental Geospatial Data yesterday at the Taj Tashi hotel.
Initiated by the Thailand ministry for science and technology and the NEC, Bhutanese officials will be trained for five days this week in topographical mapping and geographical data.

Prime Minister Lyonchhen Jigmi Y Thinley, Foreign Minister Lyonpo Ugyen Tshering, Works and Human Settlement Minister Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba and Agriculture Minister Lyonpo Pema Gyamtsho met with the DYT and GYT members of Thimphu dzongkhag today
to assess the progress of development in the dzongkhag.
Lyonchhen said to the Thimphu dzongkhag officials and the DYT,GYT members that Thimphu being the capital city and an example to others, it was necessary to review the progress especially of the government’s minimum programme.
